Beaver Valley NOW meets the fourth Monday of every month at 7 pm at the Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe in Vanport, PA EXCEPT in August and December. Look for us in the BACK of the restaurant. In August we enjoy fellowship at our annual picnic, and in December we celebrate the season with a special holiday luncheon.
The National Organization for Women is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW has 500,000 contributing members and 450 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Since its founding in 1966, NOW's goal has been "to take action" to bring about equality for all women. Both the actions NOW takes and its position on the issues are often unorthodox, uncompromising, and ahead of their time. For example, did you know that it was the Greater Pittsburgh Area NOW Chapter than won the 1970 decision of the US Supreme Court against the Pittsburgh Press' continued use of sex-segregated Help-Wanted ads? The Court ruled that such ads constituted illegal sex discrimination. As a result, sex-segregated ads became illegal nationwide...and one of your local NOW chapters paved the way.
